Actually in DC most white kids in DC are affluent by any national measure. And even the ones not affluent come from educated parents. Census information is very valuable. How many poor white or uneducated white people do you know in DC? It's a self selecting town. (Poor college students don't count). Heck, the bartenders at our favorite spot all have college degrees.

Come to Hearst. Lots of AA families still in the younger grades. I couldn't tell you if they are affluent, but they are very engaged in the school and PTA and I think that is a better indicator. Also, we are very affluent but you wouldn't know it. Live in small space, drive old car, nothing showy. We are saving most to pay for kids' college and our retirement. It might be best for you to make a list of schools, perhaps off this thread and then go visit in the fall or attend some PTA meetings and see if you like what you see and hear. Good luck!

-- Forest Hills in DC 16% AA
-- a couple areas in Travilah/Potomac 9% and 15%
-- Normanstone 8%

Whatever public schools those feed may have relatively high % of affluent AA students.

Nobody disputes that but the question remains who's fault it is that it is that way and who's responsibility it is to fix it? Most disenfranchised/oppressed demographics or individuals will wait for eternity to have someone else share the wealth to bring them into parity. Truth is most empowered sections of the world fought to get that way and will fight to stay that way and the smoke and mirrors are opiates to placate the masses to keep the status quo. Most underserved sections were taken advantage of (or worse) due to whatever weakness that made them exploitable and unless that part is fundamentally address nothing will change.

Another truth is that 99% of the richest most powerful neighborhoods in America are majority white (1 Asian) and most of those have less than 5% black (only 2 have more than 5%) while most have over 90% white. This doesn't speak optimistically about a demographic ready for political or social parity in a bought a paid for political system. DC is actually on the leading edge of black wealth but that just goes to show how far African American's have to go and on the current pace and course of action it will take another couple of hundred years to get close. The schools are simply symptomatic of a culture of underperformance and oppression.

I know lots of reasonably affluent families who send their children to DCPS. Yes, mind you, these are all WOTP, but not all affluent (by my definition) families are going private.

Did you read the OP? That poster is trying to determine which school would most allow her the benefit of the doubt that her children are not outsiders, you could guess FARM if you really want to read into it. So what purpose would a white person have in asking such a question?
