Guadeloupe and Martinique - the islands are beautiful and the snorkeling was good, but the food was a big disappointment.
Martinique is supposed to have great restaurants and we couldn't find any. Traffic was abysmal - forget about try to drive anywhere in the mornings or afternoon.

I don't see how any place that serves nasi goreng for breakfast could possibly be disappointing. Loved Bali and the little islands off Lombok. #1 on my list of places to go if I get divorced and/or have to go on the lam.

I have to go to Vietnam every year to see the in-laws. I'm always shocked when any American says they enjoyed it -- they must have been on a tour group or stayed somewhere upscale like Six Senses. I've been going for a long time, and I've never really enjoyed it (and no, it's not because of the ILs, they are lovely).

People are very aggressive there, it's very dirty and disorganized, and many of its natural treasures are trashed with plastic garbage and toxic chemicals, or by catering to casino-loving Chinese tourists who act like there's no tomorrow, and they don't seem to give a crap about keeping things clean, or customer service. The air pollution in the cities is just intolerable.

It's a big country, though, and like I said, I suspect anyone who enjoyed it did very touristy things. It'd be helpful to say "The resort I stayed in at Phu Quoc was nice" or "The beach in Da Nang was underwhelming" if you're a Vietnam-liking PP.

I didn't dislike Paris, but it did not live up to the hype. I always felt uncomfortable there, like I didn't fit in, way more so than in other parts of Europe (where as an American you don't fit in anyway, but it was more pronounced in Paris). I also never had an outstanding meal there. Decent food, but nothing memorable. I've been twice. Maybe I'm doing it wrong.

Also don't see the appeal of DE/MD/NJ beaches. They are close, that is all they really have going for them. Much prefer Outer Banks, Fire Island, or NW Florida for beaches.

Love Italy. Love Vietnam.

But I was 23. Maybe I did it wrong.

Disneyland. Went when i was 10 abd just found it nationalistic and overcommercialised. Havent been back, i think it is for the same kind of people that enjoy cruises.

After spending a week in London, I was disappointed by Paris. Dirty and more crime. I was targeted by pickpockets (saw two guys communicating as they surrounded me as I was walking towards Galleries Lafayette), so I stopped grabbed my bag tight by my boobs and shot the guy nearest me a look, then shook my head no...he looked stunned, signaled his friend and they hustled off. I felt on guard the entire time I was there, whereas I felt totally relaxed in London (even while walking at midnight).

I agree! Long drive and the beaches are no better than those in DE or NJ.

Huh, I thought people in copenhagen were very friendly. We were there for 10 days with 3 kids under 8.

Vietnamese were different. Not unfriendly just not sympathetic when you could not communicate with them. I am visiting their country so who can blame them.

I traveled there a few years ago to adopt a child and didn't have this experience at all. I found them to be very friendly and people went out of their way to be helpful.

Haven't been to Nantucket but I think MV and CC are crowded and boring.

Bahamas and Turks and Caicos.

I went to both places for weddings. I especially hated the Bahamas - it's ugly, flat, expensive, and the people are soooooo slow and rude!

As for Turks and Caicos - it was flat and expensive, and all the hobie sailing didn't really make up for how expensive it was.

I grew up in nice beach towns my whole life, so I don't understand the concept of destination weddings at super expensive beach places when you can spend half as much and get just as nice a wedding and have a much more fun time.

(That said - I've liked St John, St Thomas, Hawaii, and Aruba)

Nantucket. It was touristy, expensive and really hard to get to.
