Why I don't like carpet: if there is a spill, it's harder to clean. Much harder. If it doesn't get cleaned properly, it will smell and/or you will have to see the stained carpet. If you get it wet, it's hard to get it dry, but not with hardwood floors. There are many other reasons, but not because I'm a sheep. How odd to think that.

There are too many practical reasons to prefer hardwood over carpet for your suspicion to make sense, from cleanliness to allergies to offgassing. Has nothing to do with HGTV for me. If there are any non-rational reasons for my preference it would be the fact that I grew up in early 1900s Berlin apartments that always had hardwood.
