Wisconsin alum here. Not trying to be being picky, but Madison has over a quarter of a million people, so it is not a "medium small college town." That said, it is a great school in a great town, one of the best college experiences in America with top notch academics! I highly recommend it.

My friend is a pretty religious Catholic, his son is a junior at a Jesuit high school. His dream school is Boston College. They went to look at Notre Dame, and the son said "I'm Catholic, but these people are really Catholic."

Kids lighting candles and praying in the grotto, crucifixes in every classroom, etc. He thought Catholicism permeated the culture completely.

Graduated from ND's law school in the 1990s. My class had one Jewish classmate who left after the first semester. No idea why.

Pope Francis - and the Catholic Church - still considers homosexuality a sin and is still anti-abortion. Pope Francis may be considered "socially liberal" because he chooses to de-emphasize these facts and instead focus on the traits of Christian humility, charity and service that have been part of the church since the beginning.

I had college boyfriend who went to Creighton; I believe it's a Jesuit college located in Omaha, NE. I have never visited Omaha but have heard ok things about the city.

Back in the 1980s (could be the same today) - they didn't serve meat in the dining halls during the Fridays of Lent.

About the third week of Lent, every year, some kid writes into the Observer (student newspaper) - why can't I choose to sin on Fridays if I want to?!!

Listen - you had a choice of 2000 to 3000 colleges in America where you could have had meat on Fridays in a dining hall. Instead, you chose here. WHY?!!!

Probably ask the same question about why doesn't Notre Dame have 1) co-ed dorms 2) gay and lesbian societies 3) pro-choice rallies. 2000-3000 colleges in the US do... but no, you chose to go here...

I wonder at all the people who send their kids to or attend a Catholic school who are appalled they cannot get birth control at the campus health clinic. Isn't that like going to BYU and complaining there is no Starbucks on campus? Or to Brandeis and you have to eat kosher in the dining halls? If you go to a religious university, you should expect the tenets of the religion to be evident on the campus. Choose another school if you don't like that. Touchdown Jesus!
