I didn't imply that it was. I was stating a fact as it related to my particular kid in terms of what was required to get in to those schools. As I noted I don't know if DC would have ben admitted to those same schools with a B+ because we didn't test that scenario.

This thread is so Northeast-centric.

A B+ is around a 3.2 or a 3.3. In modern times, that GPA (assuming weighted) won't get you into anything beyond a regional state school or a private school, unless you have some serious SAT scores to balance it out.

Getting into even an average, flagship state school requires close to a 4.0 these days, unless you can thrown a football.

Getting into a fairly elite school like Emory with a 3.2 would be pretty exceptional.

Not sure I'd include the first 3 schools in the B+ category anymore. All three reported admissions rates below 29%. That doesn't sound like B+ anymore.

Mine got into the first 3 with a 3.9 unweighted. Of course I don't know if DC would have gotten in with a lower GPA too. Georgetown is definitely not a B+ school, particularly for local kids.

Really depends on a lot of factors OP. Private or public high school? Class rank or no class rank? ECs? Can he check any box? Legacy? Full pay or FA?
