Subject: How often do you see your local parents or in-laws?
ILs about 1/2 hour away. We see them every other Sunday for lunch, usually at their house.
They don't help with the kids (ILs are older and pretty frail) and aren't especially good with kids, so visits are things we arrange for their sake.

My parents live about an hour away. We text all the time, speak several times a week, see them a few times a month, take trips with them and spend all holidays with them.
Wow, why doesn’t your DH have a relationship with her?

MIL lives a few miles away. Haven't seen or spoken to her in years. Same for DH. Didn't speak or see or speak to her much before we got married either. Every so often I ask DH if he wants more of a relationship with her or to hang out with her since she is his mother. He said when he has something to say to her or vice versa they will speak.

Mom of two teenagers. My mom's recently widowed and now lives alone; has become increasingly demanding of both DH and me to do some heavy and light duty projects. She hires out for just about everything, but gets very angry if we can't drop everything to come to her. Can drive, but prefers everything to be at her house. My semi-local sibling visits every weekend and she is very disappointed that DH and I can't do same.

My MIL does to our house twice a week and I really love it. I get boring things done like laundry and other housework that is hard to do when two toddlers are around. My mom doesn't have a regular schedule for visits, but comes to help or take the kids out with my dad for a few hours for fun. My FIL comes about every six weeks and spends the night, as he doesn't drive. Works great and our kids know and adore their grandparents.

My mom watches the kids two days per week, in laws watch the kids two days per week. All mutually agreed on and on good terms. We also usually see in laws one other time during the week. It works for us. No one is intrusive and we can go about our lives.

My mom comes to pick up my 12 yr old every Friday and brings him back on Saturday. We chat for a few minutes. That's it. My in-laws are deceased. I only go to mom's house for the holidays, and maybe once in the summer if there is extended family visiting, or if my younger brother comes in to visit, which doesn't happen often. My mom lives about 5 miles away.
