DH here - I once asked this very question. DW likely has at least 150 pairs of shoes. Pisses me off. Then I asked a female work colleague what is with womens' fascination with shoes ? And she said because they always fit. My DW has always struggled with her weight and I am sure is/was self conscious about it. It still pisses me off, esp. as she has exposed me daughters to what I call "consumerism" but I understand it better and so have become a little less judgemental - not much. But when you mention that at an average of $100.00 a pair she has 15,000.00 to 20,000.00 in shoes, and you want to explode, you realize you are not going to change it.

I find my greater angst is when she explains to me how she saved me money by buying them on-sale. Yeah, makes me want to explode. She was a SAHM for a long time but I cut that out. Amex bills the size of a mortgage payment is not my idea of budgeting.

I like the idea of well put together woman but my DW is way over the top.

Because we gain weight and we lose weight but for the most part our shoe size stays the same.

The probably is when the woman can't afford it. No one should forego their rent to buy a pair of shoes.

And yes, I know someone just like this and can only shake my head.

I'm a woman and don't buy a lot of stuff, although I'm very picky about what I do buy.

Nobody in my house is going to collect anything. There isn't enough space and we don't have enough money!

I am not a "shoe person" either, and what PP describes is pretty much what I own, too. Plus a few random pairs thrown in that I bought for special events, but seldom wear.

I think the posts about shoes being the great equalizer are untrue, though! I have wide feet and high arches, and have a terrible time finding attractive shoes that fit my feet well. Anything with a heel is a problem generally, and I can try on 50 pairs of shoes and not find a single pair that works well on my feet. If not for my weird feet, maybe I *would* be a shoe person...

My H buys cars and motorcycles so I buy shoes. At least my shoes don't make my house look like a used car lot!

OP, if your DW likes shoes so much, why take that away from her? As long as you can afford it, what is the issue? I assume it is one little thing she enjoys in life.
I am a shoe buyer myself. I buy 5-8 pairs of shoes in year ranging from $30-$200. I think I spend about $700-$1000. Some shoes are good choices, and some are not (because they hurt so badly). We can afford my shoe habit. DH is happy that I am happy. He actually points out to me some shoes that he thinks I may like and he think will look good on me.

Again, if you can afford it, let her be happy. Life is too short.

Men have fewer pairs but they go through them more quickly. The men in my life stomp in the mud in their work shoes. I have separate shoes for stomping in the mud and for wearing to work. They also don't seem to care about comfort. I have sneakers and two different pairs of sandals for different kinds of weather. They wear their work shoes with shorts while running on hot humid days. I don't know how they can stand that!

Well, my DH is the clothes shopper in thr family. And it's not cheap either. He will basically shop at Nordstrom and hits the anniversary sales and men's half yearly and drops thpusands.

Oh and his shoes? He easily will spend $500 on a pair.

Funny thing is I went into target the other day and spent $200 on summer clothes and will be set.

I have about 6 pairs of summer wedges, 3 pairs of dress shoes, several pairs of tennis shoes, 2 pairs of sport sandals and a pair each of snow boots, riding boots and rain boots.

My total is low because I wear tennis shoes and sport sandals to work everyday.
