We're not talking about a "10". We're talking about normal people. There really isn't much of a reason why a desirable man would marry a woman 4-5 years older. Why can't he get someone his age to a few years younger, like most men?

There's always a reason. I know guys who married older. Decent guys, but had issues that prevented them from attracting women their age.

I'll treat this as a serious post (amazingly). The average man marries a woman two years younger. That would be a "normal" difference. So the average 30 year old man marries a 28 year old. Compare that to a 35 year old. The 35 year old has, on average, lost much more of her looks, has much lower fertility, many more sexual partners. He'd have to rush having kids instead of enjoying a few years with an age appropriate partner.

This is like having to argue why women with options prefer doctors to janitors.

I agree; I don't get why someone would feel sorry with someone a couple years younger. I actually assume that women dating men significantly older couldn't find anyone around their age and had to go to old dudes.

Sure, but why would a guy making six figures in his late 20s marry a girl four years older instead of one four years younger? It's not like a good looking, high-earning 28 year old guy can't get an attractive woman between 24-27. Why would he pick a 32 year old, unless there's an issue we don't know about?


Seriously?!? Maybe because the guy really fell in love withe the "older" women. I don't think it really matters when you are talking about a 4 or 5 year age gap. As long as the women is still young enough to have children, I don't think most men really care if she is a bit older. Just my two cents

Is there some unknown "code" that I and tons of other people have been breaking,w herein men are only supposed to date women younger than them?

How young are you that you think five years is such a big deal? Once you get out of your teens and maybe early twenties, five years is like five months. A blink of an eye. Or are you from one of the more sexist cultures where it's shameful for wives to be older than husbands? (I know of a few.) I know a fair number of successful guys, great catches, great careers, who actually fall in love with women five years older than they are. And it's not a big deal. I'll tell you, these tend to be men who like a confident woman.
