Maybe they just want a restaurant that has great service with nice ambiance and good steak to boot? I think Bourbon Steak is fine for OP--it's not a national chain like Ruth's Chris, and it's in a prime "DC" location, with just a hint of fancy that elevates it above (e.g., the fries fried in duck fat) many steak houses.
I get it, though. I'm probably a "foodie," and I wish, wish, wish that OP for her last hurrah meal in DC would try something just a little bit more interesting. There are a lot of excellent steak houses in many cities, but not a lot of, say Ethiopian.
Maybe, OP, you should try to branch out just a little.
