My favorite SUV on the road way beyond this educator's price point.

I rarely see them around this area. We sots LOTS of outbacks in Maine. I tend to think of them as not mom cars, but grandmom cars.

That's a tank. Only "insecure" guys would drive that.

This car is a party bus in suv clothing. Can any of you who own it park it inside your garage?

Infiniti QX60. It's the model smaller than the "tank" previously posted. DH also rejected the MDX for being a mom car but approved of the Infiniti.

And for the love of God, don't waste your time even considering a Range Rover.

Op I respect that you are leaning toward the MDX. Most of us are in our cars so much that it is nice to pick what you want. My problem with the mdx is that it seems to be Toyota Camry years ago. Everyone drives one.

I've considered the new volvo xc90 that is just coming out now. Dealers have demos but you have to order it. Volvo's pricing on this thing is ridiculous.

Also a mom car.

- mom who decided between MDX and q5.

I disagree. The only folks who I know drive the Audi's are men.

What about BMW X5? It's compact and drives great and you can get a third row. Resale value is great.

I have a jeep. It's two years old. My husband got it. We have had no problems so far and it has been great. My only complaint is there is no third row but you don't care. I think the newer jeeps have a better reputation but I've only had it two years.

I had a chevy traverse. Hated it. It's huge and hard to drive and hard to park. It's roomy inside but that is the only benefit. It felt cheap.

I'm just gonna say it. You're husband is so insecure-the mdx is not a chick car. My DH has driven one for years and he is a total bad ass masculine guy. He's in the army. It is a great car for a family with three kids and also a great car for a teen driver. If your teen is so spoiled that he wouldn't want to drive it, well, that's another story. If you have had your heart set on it just get it!

If your boy doesn't like driving whatever sub you buy he can take the minivan or a bike. I am sure he will be happy to drive anything he can get his hands on.

The newer highlander and pilot (even MDX) don't look that girly, but you do see a lot of 40-something women driving them because, well, they have three rows. You won't find a three row suv that isn't driven by a bunch of moms. If you spend extra on an suv that is worse in gas mileage and reliability just because it has a more aggressive grille, you're just dumb and no one can help you with that.

OP here. LOL. That's true -- if my teenage son doesn't like whatever SUV I buy, he can always drive the minivan or ride his bike. I think he'll just be grateful to be able to drive anything.

So bummed that no one is chiming in for the Jeep Cherokee since I like the look of it.

I agree that my criteria are not entirely rational. I've always bought such sensible cars and was looking to have a little fun.

Just go test drive the MDX already...nothing wrong with having a chick car if you're a chick. And your son will be driving his mom's car so it's OK for him too.

Just get the car you want - who cares what your DH says.

I was trying to think of a car that I have never seen a woman driving, yet has 3-row seating with room for a bunch of kids/stuff. And a roof rack for your surfboard.
Here's what I came up with:

The Buick Roadmaster stationwagon

We have the Pilot and that thing is solid, but it is definitely a utilitarian car. Also, the third row is difficult to use. We always pay cash for cars so it prevents me from overspending...
