School-based can mean media technicians, for example, and paras. They've already cut the hours for the paras which will hurt low-performing schools, for example.

The core classes and grade level ES teachers are rarely cut, but even with that "perk" class sizes will grow. My daughter's 5th grade class this year has 28 students. They're EASY students, as we're in a solid cluster, but it's still a lot! I have classes of 29 in my special ed inclusion classes. It's impossible - even with a co-teacher (certified in English and sped) - to meet their needs.

Many people outgrow the classroom. Yes, some people flee b/c the conditions under which they work are unbearable. But those who have been successful and happy deserve to expand their skill set.

I'm not saying that central office is a lean machine. It's not. However, there are still qualified folks in central office who are passionate about education.

In teaching, of course. Teachers must stay teachers, and a school system of 154,000 students is just supposed to somehow run itself without a central office or administrators.
