(which I though meant she would sleep with a guy if all went well on the 3d dare but may have just meant she would never before). But another friend dating in his 50s told me most women he dated wanted to sleep with him on the first or second date. Is this common? Do older women move faster to decide whether to keep dating or not, or was my friends experience unusual as he was a successful widower likely seen as a good catch?

I'm not sleeping with anyone of the first, third, or fifth date in almost any circumstance.
Luckily, I found quality men who hung around well beyond that. One waited 4 months -- and he hasn't had to wait since, because I married him 30 years ago.

A special kind of guy to wait 5 dates? Not if you're looking for longterm.
LOL 5 "dates" and no sex = friends, no future. I bet the guy will introduce you to his new fiancée.

Otherwise, move on.
Speaking as a woman here: there can be an attempt for sex on the guy's part. I would probably be disappointed in any guy who didn't try after the third date. But I would not actually have sex until the 5th or sixth date. I just really enjoy making out. I've been married nearly 20 years, so this is all moot![]()

It sets the tone and takes a little pressure off; no tongue but a slightly open mouth brief kiss was always met with enthusiasm. End of the night kiss was on her and I said so in a joking way. I never had a bad reaction but a friend who tried my style never did it again after a woman canceled the remainder of the date.
I noticed more kissing and sex happens with usual irregularity.
That would turn me off if you tried to kiss me on the lips right off the bat. Cheek ok, lips no. That would actually make me feel that you expected sex at the end of the date. It puts more pressure on the date. Maybe you are a really hot guy?
