I'm a senior citizen. My mom switched me one time and I remember it well--I was three years old and disappeared across the street with a friend. She was terrified.

This mom was going after her son out of fear. She did the right thing. Has she done it before? Probably. Are there better ways? Yes. But, in the situation at hand, she did the right thing.

Well, since I'm sure the cops have seen the video, if not a witness to it directly, and they didn't arrest the mom, I guess the cops felt differently. I think they felt the same way as many people do, extreme circumstances in a life-threatening situation. I don't think they would've arrested the mom no matter the color of her skin.

Yup. Drag by their hair, smack them, twist an arm-whatever it takes to forcibly remove them from a situation like that.

I have run down a street like a mad women when I heard sirens going up the street to my child's school. I was so sure they were mid-school shooting. I mean, seriously, all 5 feet of me-what the hell was I actually going to do? But dammit, I was protecting my kid, come hell or high water.

Yup, had it been my son I would have tackled his ass and wrestled that rock away from him without a second thought. Sometimes, it is ok to prove a point your parenting style. But the time and place to prove that you are no contact parent is NOT in the middle of right with an armed police force facing you down. Junior is going to slapped up and dragged out of there and he MIGHT get my regrets later.

I personally applaud her as a mother being so outraged by what her son was about to do however there is no mistaking the back but she definitely beat her son

I'm not glorifying her because she smacked her kid. I think people are calling her "mom of the year" because she went there to protect her son and did what she had to to save him. I'm Asian. As a parent, you do whatever you need to do to protect your kid, even if that means a smack upside the head.

I so would not have had to hit my kid to make her leave. I learned long ago how to use the "voice of doom" to scare the piss out of her in those few instances where it was necessary.


That's what we'd all like to think, just like we'd all like to think our kids wouldn't fall victim to the mob mentality and always do the right thing.
No, she doesn't always do the right thing. That's why I use the voice of doom when needed. And based on my long experience with her, I think it's highly unlikely I would need to hit her. I mean, the point raised was how I would stay in control with my kid in harm's way and my adrenaline up and I think it's entirely possible that I would act like an asshole but still not likely I would hit her.



I think it's easier with girls as they generally are less likely to engage in life threatening illegal activities. As I said, I think we'd all like to think we'd do the right thing as parents, but I'm not naive enough to think that I wouldn't act like that mom. You have no idea what you are capable of in extreme situations.


Her daughter will eventually get in a car with a drunk, drink herself sillly and her boyfriend will possibly beat her in college, but mommy will have her mean face on... so she will immediately stop.
