Im not sure what type of short haircut to get. I have a squarish shaped jaw with small feautures and curly hair.

Long hair does not look better on all women. I know a lot of women with long, stringy hair and I would just love to sneak up behind them with a pair of scissors.
Long or short, it all depends on the woman and how she takes care of It.

Jana Klavina at Smitten salon in Clarendon. Very hip, European sense of style, and she has short hair herself which I think gives her advantage to understanding shorts cuts and styling.

That's crazy. The men I know (including my husband) prefer short hair. When I grow out my hair (which I do from time to time), it often looks stringy and unkempt, despite my best efforts to style it. I never get compliments on it when it's long - only short.

I'm in my thirties and people mistake me for being much younger all the time. Maybe it's my ponytail.

After years of considering, I got my long hair cut into a pixie similar to the one you posted. My only concern was inevitably growing out later, which I'm doing now. I feel a bit like the mom on the Brady Bunch with kind of a shag-mullet thing going on, but some people have even stopped me to say they love my hair which no one ever did when it was super long.

The grow out phase feels awful but you'll get through, if you ever decide you want to grow out!

I have a pixie, and have had one on and off for years. I love it! When I have long hair, I have to pull it back or it really drags my face down. A short cut plays up my eyes and cheekbones and looks much more stylish and flattering on me.

It does require more maintenance, in that you have to go in every 6 weeks for trims. But it makes up for it in the ease of styling it in the morning. I color my hair, so I'd be going in that often for root touch-ups anyway.

Growing out is really only a pain for a little while, if you have a good stylist. You have to get the sides longer, and then you just cut it into a short bob that you grow out. I've done it several times and its not that bad. Although I might never grow it out again. The older I get, the more flattering the pixie is on me.

I, too, have had a pixie for a long time (about 5 years.) I love it--I really play up my femininity by wearing pretty earrings a lot, and lipstick. Now, I'm growing it out into a jaw-length bob. It hasn't been terribly painful or awkward because I've gotten the back trimmed frequently (about every 6-7 weeks) so it's slightly stacked (no mullet). My hair now almost covers my ears (I started growing it out at Christmas--so I've been at this around 3 months). I expect I'll have a short bob by June, or about 6 months after I started.

But I love the pixie so much, I think I'll probably go back to it before too long.

This may come as a shock to some people, but long hair does not look great on every female. There are many women who do not require long hair to look feminine and attractive. Sometimes long hair--especially if it is in poor condition or not cut in a flattering way--can look worse.

Having said that, a pixie cut *is* high maintenance in terms of trim/salon visits and daily wash/style so it doesn't look bedhead-y. I used to do my own mini trims when I had one, and yes, my husband loves it short. But ultimately it took too much time/money/effort to maintain a pixie cut.
