I think OP chose a school last year.

I wouldn't base the decision on having to go through another admittance cycle. Even those of us in K -12 schools constantly reassess as the kids grow and change.

I say Norwood because you will end up with more choices for high school than to restrict your choices now only to Bullis and Landon. You will be able to get into Bullis or Landon after Norwood in any case so why not give your DS more high school choices.

OP, you have an interesting list. I don't usually hear of people considering Mater Dei who are also considering these other three. The other school geographically that I am surprised is not on your list is St. Andrew's, as it is another option that goes middle - high school and Norwood is a one of its historic feeders for the high school. Obviously, you need to decide single sex or coed first. While I understand why some people prefer single sex for high school, personally I think for boys from a socialization perspective coed through middle school is very valuable if you later opt for a single sex high school. Academically, I hear Landon is still more traditional compared to Bullis, St. Andrew's and probably Norwood. Don't know anything about Mater Dei. Good luck.

I am sorry that he and his parents feel so bad about getting Bs. Really a B at STA or Sidwell is a very respectable grade. Colleges know about schools with grade inflation, so they know a B at Sidwell or STA is not the same as a B at most schools. My DC had to work really hard to get a 3.4 at a Big 3. But we were proud of him and felt OK about it and loved all the learning opportunities inside and outside the classroom. Based on my experience, OPs son will get into a good college and be very well prepared. Freshman year may even be easy for him.

I feel for this poor young man and his family!

Especially selective ones.... You might be among the yearly grads who matriculate to IU or Syracuse if you are lucky...
