Don't be obtuse. My 17 month old is only 20 pound and calling him "little" is indeed and insult. Can you not see the difference or do you just want to brag about how big your baby is?

Why is that an insult. Your kid is little. That's a fact. Why aren't you celebrating it? Stop putting your own insecurities onto your kid. My brother is very short and he was one of the most popular kids in both high school and college. Deficiencies in height can be overcome in 2 seconds by a million other traits.

Using the term little is a definite insult?
That is stupid

You are a little person, PP. You are small minded. You are short on common sense. You are very small.

Did you take any of that as a compliment?

You have to be stupid to think using those comments as a comparison made any sense.
I am very small -- IT IS A FACT, NOT AN INSULT.
Put in the right context anything can be used as an insult. But the general use of the word "little" or "short" is not an automatic insult.
I guess you are "short" on your meds today.

You do realize that your comment to PP about being "short" on her meds proved her point and not yours, right? Short as in "not enough".

And also to echo other's comments - you are a female. It is different for boys.

It proved my point about it being contextual -- OHHHH FFS, some of you are so sensitive and not smart.

She's always making comments about how my kid will have two bigger cousins to look after him and how he can have their clothes since hers barely got to wear them anyway, etc. I can just totally see her going down the same road as your SIL. Right now I just smile and "uh-huh" it but once he's here I'll probably be more aggressive about telling her to STFU. You should too.

Bigger as older right?

Wow I never knew calling a toddler little was an insult. I say it all the time.

+1

He may be taller than she thinks. Only time will tell! Take PP's advice and ask her not to bother.

I don't think her comments are insulting at all. I would leave it alone.

Your child is 1.5? So 18 months?

You have no idea if he's going to be tall or short or fat or thin or whatever.

My daughter was on the 20% for height at 18 months and at 5 she's the tallest girl in K. Do I think she will be tall? Who knows.

If this is the most you have to worry about in your child's life...you are doing ok.

But that's not what SIL did or said.

Calling a one year old "Little Larlo" isn't the same thing as calling an adult small-minded or short on common sense.

Oh FFS. Pass up the clothes if you don't need them and don't be so sensitive. It's only going to drive you crazy if you take everything as an insult. My husband and I are both on the short side (5'2" and 5'6" for him) and have three kids who are all under the 50th percentile. We are all "little." The best thing you can do for small boys is teach them that they are just fine the way they are. Creating family drama isn't the solution.

Anonymous wrote:My SIL sends huge boxes of hand me downs a lot of it is not size appropriate and definitely not my or my kids taste, but we just said thank you. And I have made a lot of money selling it on mommy garage sale site, consignments, and the rest just use as emergency clothes for day care or the trunk of our car. It did get to a point where we ran out of room and my husband told her (cause it's his family) politely that we can't accept more due to size constrictions of our tiny house. But I never took it as a dig.

I think it is a dig, but I would accept the huge boxes of clothes and then donate usable items to shelters (for the tax deduction) or, like this poster, make money selling any high quality stuff locally or on ebay. Or, if you already have enough money, give them away for free on Craigslist to other desperate area Moms who need to make money or need kids clothes. Don't tell your mean SIL.
