This was my first thought, because I know somene like this. He's a colleague and friend, and simply really enjoys amazing food and wine. Agree, if you have not even kissed yet, you shouldn't be going out anywhere tonight. If I was just a couple dates into it, I would've moved the date to last night or Sunday or something. Having it today is just too much pressure, despite the restaurant you are going to.

When my DH and I were newly dating he was going to take me to Inn at LW for our first v day. We ended up not going because he had to extend a work trip and that caused us to miss the reservation so I cooked at his house. It was nice anyway.
Back then money was no object. Now, he's left
Big law, and we are happier and freer with our time but no way would money be no object these days.

Does he make a ton of money? I could see a young guy making $250k dropping $500 on dinner on vday because it seems like what you're supposed to do. If it is not a stretch for him I wouldn't think anything of it.

It didn't strike me as that odd either. There are lots of people who frequent such places. Moreover, there are lots of places in this range. Remember though that many have less expensive, not as advertised, options, so follow his lead.
