BUMP!

I'd love to hear more - still waiting to hear about the schools we applied to (live in 16th St Heights). Overall (apart from the Lafayette crazy), I'm glad to hear that people really like their elementary schools - this bodes well for the schools overall!

Apparently the person who wrote it is pleased. It was her/his opinion. Just because you've got an issue with the principal doesn't mean that poster does.

How do you like the new principal? We applied and didn't get in last year, but the primary reason we applied was that we LOVED the last principal--he really sold us on the school.


I'm 14:35. I like the new principal. She is lower key than the previous principal (I think she is originally from the Midwest), but she is very accessible to parents. She has regular "Coffee with the Principal" sessions, and she seems to be on top of the relevant issues, like the renovation, which looks as though it will both happen and be worthy of its own Icelandic saga.

We are enjoying Marie Reed ECE. Excellent teaching, dual language, and a warm, familial environment. I've also really been pleased with Tools of the Mind. The kids really are doing in-depth play. Something to consider, WOTP schools will be hitting you up for more money for everything. EOTP schools, if you can find a school with the sweet spot between Title 1 and higher test scores, are a lot less stressful for parents of middle income you can't spare hundreds of extra dollars every month for private aftercare, school galas, PTA donations etc. Also some of the principals are hard core effective. They cut the fat meaning ineffectual teachers. If you see what they can do with a majority of ESL and kids with no books at home, imagine how your kid will benefit in the actual classroom.

We've also been extremely happy with our first year at JOW (which get surprisingly little love on these boards for whatever reason). Naysayers, feel free to jump in and point out how ECE is hunky dory everywhere, but I've been really impressed when interacting with older students at the school. Friendly, well-mannered kids.

OMG I thought I wrote this but then I realized I was only on this thread because of the reference on the PK thread. I agree with this sentiment. Breath of fresh air and all! I think the teachers and staff should consider that the previous principal set up a system that catered to them, once she left their bubble burst. Misplaced discontent, if it's really as bad as some might say. Move on folks, it's a job not an entitlement. Yeah for change at Lafayette!!!


I'm a NP and I agree. 5th grade is having a better year. You know what I admire about her, she came in and made some unpopular changes and then after listening to the community she didn't enact some of those changes. I ike someone who doesn't have to save face at all costs. She is organized and can be funny. Though she may not come off as warm, that's not a change. If teachers are upset with her, let them be. There are still some very poor teachers, as well as teachers who could be motivated to do better. And many teachers are as whiny as the parents.

Love LAMB-PCS, both Missouri and South Dakota ave campuses. Two fully qualified montessori teachers in every classroom, Spanish language immersion, excellent SPED, fantastic art, music, and PE teachers, supportive administration, active PTO, it goes on and on. Differentiated learning is intrinsic to the Montessori model, so my kids have unlimited opportunity for challenging work. This school makes you wonder why DCPS can't replicate better....
