Whatever - that is obviously not my intent. It is the smallest MS in the county, and I knew the kids in that class, and have direct experience with the school. People on this thread are jumping all over themselves with speculation, but I doubt any of them or you have ever set foot inside that building. I was a parent there, of a child in that class, and it was the worst year of my kid's life. No. Joke. Yes, one of my first thoughts was that this could've been my kid. And that my kid knows this kid, and most likely I know the family and I can't imagine what they are going through. It's awful. Whatever issues this child had, I can tell you without hesitation that the school exacerbated them rather than providing a place where he felt safe.
Don't listen to the the idiot in bold-PP. Thank you for sharing your experience with this crappy Middle School. A friend of mine had a son in a similar type of school and it was absolutely horrible. SAdly, they were unable to pull their kid due to lack of money (to move or for private), he went on to an equally awful High school and was tormented daily. Her smart, beautiful, vibrant and socialble son is now a dysfunctional recluse, who is so damaged by the bullying and torment he went through, that I fear he may never recover. So glad you were able to "save" your child from the zoo they were in. Some, sadly are not that lucky.
Oops! meant to bold the statement above yours-NOT yours-sorry! Thanks again for sharing your experience.
Thanks. Both my DS and I felt badly for the kids who could not get out. We are incredibly grateful that we were able to get the FA needed to send him to private. And he is entirely different kid now. So happy and engaged. I feel like I saved his life. No child should have to go to a school where they feel unsafe. And this is about the admin, not the kids. The schools and the admins need to adapt to their student population, not just ignore what's happening. Also, they passed my kid through with straight A's so that if I tried to fight for FAPE and transfer or get $$ for private I wouldn't have legal grounds. Yes, this happens.
My heart truly goes out to the family of this young man. Shame on the administrators! They completely dropped the ball and ignored the issues that were going on within their school. Anonymous wrote:this was posted in the "Older kids and teenagers" forum. In case you'd like to help:
As been reported in the news and shared with particular school communities, on Monday, a 7th grade student from Lee M.S. passed away. Amie Wohlfarth and Therese Gibson, our Kennedy CC's, have been working diligently since then with the Lee M.S. community around the unfortunate circumstances of Elvis' death. Funeral costs for a child is something few, if any of us, plan for, and can be very expensive, making an unbearable time even more stressful.
To reduce some of that worry, Amie has set up a YouCaring donation page to benefit the family. If you are able and willing, please consider making a donation; if you are not able to make a donation, please share the information with others.

Thank you.
