I had one from pottery barn that was $1100 and it was hideous. I had them come pick it back up. I now have a smallish west elm chair (not rocker or glider) and it's perfect. I've never missed the glider. Oh but most importantly you will want a pouf or something for a foot rest. Congrats!

It looks so pristine in the picture. Our baby had colic and puked a lot. When the baby stage was over, we sold the old glider and bought something more grown up for our home.

You can try the chair, and you're supporting a local business. The owner is also a sweetheart. We bought all of our baby furniture there. My glider is like the Hayes one, maybe even the same chair from Daisy Baby. It isn't my favorite in terms of looks but it is super comfortable and practical. I'm usually a form over function kind of person but don't regret going for pure comfort here.

What is "urban styling"? Vintage/retro? Modern? Clarify and I can be more help, but there are options out there. I hate the look of gliders too since they look like office furniture to me. Polished wood and microsuede, ugh.

We got a rocking armchair upholstered in white from Crate and Barrel that's modern. The rocking mechanism is hidden underneath so it blends with the white sofas and looks like a regular chair but is so, so much more comfortable and the baby loves it. Pretty sure this isn't "urban styling," but it is an up-to-date style and isn't a glider.

Try looking at Giggle, Oeuf, or Poshtots for ideas different from the traditional glider.

But i dont understand the need for a glider and never had one. Never missed one either. A comfy chair yet, but i wanted something i could easily stand up from while holding a sleeping baby so i could put them down. Seemed to me a rocking glider would make that tough.

I also have an upholstered one from Serena & Lily (I think it's the Hayes). It's still in my now 6 y/o's room and we snuggle in it every night to read together. I bought it in a solid color, so it's been versatile through nursery-to toddler-to big boy decor. It works perfectly with his PB Star Wars themed room now.

The glider we got for my other child's nursery was upholstered in a pastel pattern. It was very pretty in the nursery, but I ended up getting rid of it after the toddler years.

Another vote for a rocker recliner from Best Chairs.

If you're going to spend good money on a chair, just get a recliner/rocker. There are so many styles I'm sure you'll find what you like for your renovated urban Petworth townhouse that's not country.

You really don't need a glider to rock your kids to sleep or breast feed. Why not wait until your baby comes and see if you want it? we got a mini barca lounger at the Chair Shop in Alexandria just off edsall rd on 395. G. Washington highway. perfect size for arm support and breast feeding.

What about something like this? I think it's a knock-off of the Monte Luca glider, which is what we have.
