Subject: Why did you marry him/her?
Because I came to understand whoever I married would have to accept that I was going to sleep with her when the occasion arose. She was constant, someone I always wanted to have in my life and I found myself wanting to adjust my life to accommodate her presence in it. When the opportunity to marry her came up, I made the right decision.
Still glad I married her after 2 decades.

People do change for better and for worse.
But these changes are usual subtle and certainly as one gets older a person tends to mellow. However, I have seen over and over again couples get married where one party or the other is just flawed in a way that will come back to haunt them down the line.
When I met my daughter's ex-husband for the first time before she married him - they were with us for a long weekend - I could see characteristics in him which I was sure would create problems in their relationship. I told her this but she chose to ignore it and less than a year after they married, they separated and divorced. In years to come she acknowledged that it was a terrible mistake she made because there were definite indications that conflicts would arise.
A driven person who is very ambitious and career focused is not going to suddenly change after he becomes a parent and do his share of child-rearing. This same ambitious person and the success he attains may be appealing to a woman when he is single but it would be foolhardy to enter into a marriage and then expect him to play the role a more family oriented guy would when he becomes a parent.
I don't claim any particular talent at judging people but more often than not the signs are there but one has to be willing to recognize them and not gloss over them. I think there is sometimes an overwhelming pressure - societal or otherwise - for women to marry and it causes otherwise discerning women to overlook the warning signs.
