Were the 80s and 90s a better time? I am younger and feel nostalgic for a time period I never experienced.

I like to think it's like the show Dynasty, but with less money, obvi.


I grew up in the 80s and went to college in the early 90s. I loved it but I always felt like you did towards the 50s. I liked to think it was all like Leave it to Beaver and the Donna Reed show and that those kids had it easy. I think it happens to every generation.

Do miss me some Peter Gabriel though. Good times, good times.

Sadly, he was an awesome drummer (not just with Genesis; he also played on some of my favorite Brian Eno albums) and showed promise as a songwriter until that horrendous mid-'80s period we're talking about here.

If I were getting that kind of money, I would not sleep for however long it lasted. Bag that fat money while you can! I have no problem with musicians, actors or athletes who are clearly grabbing every endorsement, every gig and every long-term big money contract they can.

It can all end in a hurry and Subway sandwich shops are not going to keep giving you money if you can't even hang onto the starting job of a team that has won 7 games in the last two years.

He has a great drum solo in the behind the scenes movie about recording "Do they know it's Christmas". May be on the Internets somewhere.

Genesis of that era was pretty good, too, although many prefer the band with Peter Gabriel as the front man.

I saw Genesis play Auckland in 1986. Awesome show.

Oh, Phil had cheesy songs, but they didn't define him. He could dabble in cheese and then come out with a song that hooked you.
