Not sure what you are referencing, but European breads are hard out the outside and chewy on the inside. And they aren't burnt, like this crap. It's like the people who (used to) defend starbucks by saying Americans couldn't appreciate darker European coffee, when in truth Starbucks is just burnt shit coffee.
It's fine if you like it, and enough people do that it apparently is able to stay open. Just don't try to impose your poor taste with some sense of superiority.
