Agreed, Dear Prudence is terrible! I don't follow Carolyn as much anymore but generally like her and agree with her advice.

I find her advice spot on. Not necessarily what the advice-seeker may want to hear but sensible advice. And I think it is pretty low-class to discuss her personal life and connect it to what she writes.

Oh geez. Another longtime reader of Carolyn. I agree with her more than I disagree with her. Like a pp said, she was a breath of fresh air when she started compared to Ann Landers and Dear Abby. She explained pretty openly (and unnecessarily, if you ask me) that she and Nick had been separated for awhile. She was caring for her mother who was dying of ALS at the time she reconnected with her now husband. She acknowledged that she became pregnant with her twins before they were married but in the link posted she said that the pregnancy was planned. So they had clearly decided to start a family together. If she and Nick hadn't officially signed the papers, they had clearly moved on from each other so you can hardly call it cheating.

No back story? Are you kidding? It's been hashed and rehashed. They did a joint chat with that as the sole subject. They did a radio show together recently and the subject came up (again). It's all over the internet. As a PP said, you need to get out more.

How on earth do you know this?

Her kids with her now-second husband were born too early (but not premature) for them not to have been conceived before the end of her first marriage. It was public knowledge at the time.

They had been separated and were no longer together before she announced it to the column. I thought that was public knowledge too.

She had 3 kids. Three boys. Set of twins and a singleton. Her 2nd husband, she met in New England, where she moved back after her Mom was succumbing to ALS. I think her current husband (Kenny?) was some sort of teacher/professor. Even if she weren't legally divorced, she wasn't with Nick when those kids were conceived.

I grew up reading her, too. Since the very first columns/chats. Back when there were two chats a week.
