For those of you who just leave the toiletries at the hotel you could always collect them and when you have a bunch donate them.

I work at the WB and before DS was born I volunteered at Miriam's Kitchen in DC. In the IFC each floor has a collection box for toiletries. Someone would collect all the boxes, bag up the goodies and I would drop them off when I had a shift. It was always amazing to me how many people would bring in the airline amenities kits and hotel soaps and shampoo. It was so great to see so many people who thought to lug this stuff home and then drop them at the office for donation.

But as for OP, I too would find it interesting and would likely use it as well. I love to try new things. that is why I signed up for ipsy which is mostly crap but sometimes you get a good sample and find a new product.

There is nothing "justified" about sending a gift. It's a GIFT. And they weren't used soaps or a coupon, so I don't know what the hell you're talking about. One person sent a gift, the other person didn't, the recipient of gift is complaining/making fun of it and bringing up gift giver's income level. That's rude.

My friend's MIL always gives her the Estee Lauder free gift as a Christmas present. Sure, I can see giving this as an extra but as the whole gift? No way. It says "you're not worth the money."

If you wonder WTF she was thinning - it was probably Larla might like these soaps and it's not like she reciprocates...

My 65 yo FIL does this and it's soo annoying! I am so embarrassed that he hoards hotel crap. He will even smuggle tea and yogurt. He looks like Santa Claus leaving the hotel even taking the pens and paper and robbing the maids cart !
