Good lord--I'm Miss Emily Post jr about most things. However, hosted for a friend that was having a baby after 10-years. Who keeps any baby gear for 10-years???? 1/2 the sh@t has probably been recalled or is outdated. None of us even knew the mom when she was pregnant with the first--met her when firstborn was 3.

With such a large age-spread-- it's totally fine and I think really nice!

What backwards culture is that?

People asked what I needed after 8 years, including relatives halfway across the country. I did a registry to help. Plus, discounts and stuff. People don't want to just buy you random shit most of the time-there are baby gear preferences for a reason.

I wasn't begging for presents, but people asked for suggestions.

I think even Emily Post would consider showers that are 15 years apart to be perfectly acceptable. I imagine that people are thrilled to celebrate a new baby in that family! I bet the shower would be fun, too, comparing how much things have changed.

Some people are such sticks in the mud, they find every little thing tacky. Noone is 100% following Emily Post rules these days, even those claiming this is tacky.

If you register after baby #1 (even after 15 years) then it IS a tacky gift grab. If all these people just want to celebrate, make it "no gifts." If not, then it is, by definition, a gift grab. Tacky people don't know they are tacky.

Not inherently tacky. 15 years means that they likely gave away all their baby stuff. Assuming they aren't hosting it themselves and making outrageous demands on guests, this is an exception to the no-second-shower rule.
