Have you seen some of the homes in Luxmanor? If the WJ parents who live there can afford to live there, they most certainly can afford to live in Bethesda "proper"-and I am certain that area is full of even more snottier snobs on that "side of the tracks"!

We moved out of our neighborhood that was feeding into WJ last summer after eight years. We needed more space, plus I was never truly happy there. We looked at Olney, some Rockville areas and then the Quince Orchard area. We eventually settled on the QOHS area (more house than Rockville and far easier access than Olney were our reasons). We are beyond thrilled with our decision - good schools; lots of shops, restaurants within one mile; easy access to 270 and the furthest we have to commute is Rockville. Good luck OP finding what *you and your family* want.

There are a number of apartments and condos that feed into WJ, some of which can be had for only (gasp!) $180K. They are not a majority though, by any means, and they do provide for a nice break from stuffy multimillion-dollar mansions of Luxmanor. Our family is sort of in the middle of the range income-wise, living in one of those 700+K townhomes, and I'm grateful that my kid does not have to feel inferior because we can't afford to spend 2 million on a house.

I agree that the area of Bethesda that feeds into WJ isn't as high end as the area that feeds into Whitman, but it is still a pretty exclusive area. You can't really find any single family home in the school district for under $650K. The Luxmanor and Farmland districts are pretty darn exclusive if you ask me. And the Wyngate, Ashburton, Garrett Park, and Kensington Parkwood neighborhoods are full of multi-million dollar renovated or new construction homes. We just bought an older home in the Wootton district for $650K. We got a larger home there than what we could afford in the WJ district. I'd live there in a heartbeat if we could afford the size home we want!
