DH used to get it a lot growing up. He moves in with me, he stops getting it. I have witnessed my MIL's actions in the kitchen. I can do the math.
lol. same here. my DH's mom cleans her dishes with a LEMON. and then lectures me on how that's all you need to sanitize.
Seriously?
Lemons are expensive these days, lady must be loaded. I use lemon for a lot of home remedies but cleaning dishes is not one of them!
Yah. I should mention it is the same lemon for the entire set of dirty dishes. She gets a lot of bang for her lemon buck.
(and honestly, I've used vinegar, etc to clean and such but this is just so gross to me -- )
Ewww. This and the mouse poop MIL are the winners. I'll be the first to admit I don't have the cleanest house, but I am fairly vigilant about mold and cleaning in the kitchen. I am fine with leaving stuff out for a long while -- I've happily eaten soup or stew that has spent the night cooling on the stove -- but I make a regular mold inspection of the fridge and toss anything questionable. (Though with something like cheese, you can cut the moldy part off and the rest is usually fine.)
I have never gotten food poisoning from any source, thank G-d. But a few weeks ago I made some chicken sausage that smelled funny. It smelled kind of fishy. I had cooked fish in the same pan the day before, but I washed it thoroughly. DH and I gingerly ate about 1/3 of the sausage, and it tasted ok, but I just couldn't get over the smell. So we tossed the rest. We didn't get sick but I didn't really want to risk eating it over the next two or three days.
