For the sake of your sanity and marriage, there is a simple solution: his and hers bars of soap. Even if you use the same brand, attach one of those stainless steel or chrome soap holders on suction cups to the wall. Put his there and tell him to use that one and you'll use the one in the original soap dish or wherever you keep it. If his runs out and he uses yours, then you move that one to his soap holder and get a new bar. Done.
