I'd settle for entrance doors with glass windows that let in the sunlight. The solid "panic doors" at the entrance are not welcoming -- they look like crime-stopper architecture.

well the way the winds blowing its already probably going to go to Hardees anyway so you're going to lose them no matter what. also the easiest way to fix the deal over enrollment is to not give out of bounds students automatic feeder rights to deal. Deal would be down to 900 of you did that.
Seriously. This obsession some folk have over IB kids vs. OOB kids borders on insanity. Eaton is a great school. Hearst is a great school. Deal is a great school. (And by the way...my kid goes to Deal and I'm still trying to figure out what definition people are using to justify this assertion that it's over crowded. It is not).
I know it's difficult for some of you to wrap your head around the fact that you can have a great school with kids that come from all over the city; that these families can be active, and supportive, and politically savvy; and that your child can form lasting friendships with children who don't look like them or live across the street. But this is true for many families in this city who have been fortunate enough to be a part of these school communities.
Here's a newsflash for you: There are some great things happening in the world outside of your 12 block radius.
Sorry, Eaton is a good school. It is not a great school yet. Much more needs to happen to bring it to the level of Janney-Mann-Key-Lafayette.

Most of the Eaton families I know strongly oppose the forced move to Hardy. Why would 't they? Hardy is just not of the same quality as Deal. EAton is really getting shafted here -- what the Ward 3 rep on the boundary committee termed unfortunate "collateral damage." Moreover, because the IB population is only 40% or so, the school's political influence is weak -- no elected official really is there to stand for the school. What priority does Mary Cheh place on standing up for Eaton's interests versus those of Janney or Murch where a much higher percentage of parents are ward 3 voters? I think this had a lot to do with Eaton being made the little sacrificial lamb in the redistricting process.

Why would you close a high performing school that is the model of diversity and opportunity for a myriad of kids across the city? There is nothing so grand a Deal that would warrant this idea. Hardy is not a walking disaster either.

Dc has closed many schools for low enrollment numbers but given eaton is a high performing high population school it's not likely to close for low ib participation
I have no idea why dcps didn't do a better job of redrawing boundaries for Eaton and hearst to alleviate overcrowding in other ward 3 schools. They only added a few blocks.

Why don't they close Eaton and send the IB kids to Hearst? I don't see the benefit of spending on yet another renovation. But I guess Dcps doesn't think big picture.
