My daughter is a Julia and she is 28. We called her Jules since she was 4. But only sometimes. Mostly she is Julia. It is an affectionate nickname.

Both older brothers called her Jules.

I had a friend in high school - mid 80's - who was called Jules.

I've never heard this until recently, and on both grown women and little girls. Julia is such a pretty name; Jules sounds rough, IMO. When did this start?


One of my good friends in HS in the mid-80s was a Julia who was mostly called Jules. It's not a new thing.

This is because she doesn't want to be called Jules.


I often use a nickname but always introduce myself by my full name. IDK why but it's just what I do.

Jule and Jules were the names of my uncles, short for Julius. Then there's Jools Holland and Jules Vern so I usually associate it with men.
