OP, I don't think she can do anything if you had approval. If you don't have the approval, it could be a problem, but I don't think she can do anything. She's got to get a lawyer to put a lien against your house.

That is an INSANE story. I get that the couple were being difficult, but why would the HOA put itself in a position to incur such costs?


It's all about the power trip many board members have. I've seen it happen many times. The couple in this story pushed back, the board got pissed and decided to push harder. They lost. Pride goes before a fall.

That is an INSANE story. I get that the couple were being difficult, but why would the HOA put itself in a position to incur such costs?

I think your meadow sounds awesome! We've got a much smaller yard but have a 10x10 space with just wildflowers. It's looking a little ragged now but we still have tons of finches and butterflies. I would LOVE a meadow!

I would ignore. Don't let them engage you in a back-and-forth. Pay your HOA fee but ignore. Do what you want to do.

Illegal is one thing - nothing illegal here. A difference in taste is just a difference in taste.

"Covenant"s are not enforceable. For a HOA, are your signed documents in place now that specific re: plantings?

I never said it was upscale. I said it was nice. These property management companies/developers are buying foreclosures at a cheap price and then renting them cheap. Just because a neighborhood is full of homes priced for the middle class does not mean that people don't care about their homes. Most all of us do - except the renters, who feel like they've hit the jackpot in being able to afford the place and don't get that they're not in the holler anymore. But I don't see the HOA getting all up in their face about putting their 4,000 second-hand plastic big wheels and other crap back in their garages at night. They're far too focused on my trash cans to even notice, apparently.

I thought a weed was a plant a you did not want. If you planted wildflowers how are they weeds? Does your HOA really only allow the planting of non-indigenous lawn grass?

I seed about 1/4 acre with annual wildflowers every year. They bloom all summer long and my neighbors love it. They make beautiful arrangements, attract the butterflies and bees to pollenate, whats not to love. In MoCo the county also encourages the planting of wildflowers to improve drainage and soil contitions.
