Smart? No, disgusting. When i post giveaways on my community list serve, its to give back to others to make up for those who have been generous with me. "Take what you need" does not mean "Load up the car with everything so you can resell it." Just like putting out stuff labeled for a charity pick-up doesn't mean it's okay to swoop in and take it all before the charity shows up. Both are loathsome behaviors.

NP here. Why do you assume the things that were given for free were from a community listserv or for charity? I've sold children's items that were given to me from other parents; I sold them after I used them. For example, I've used baby and toddler clothing that was handed down to me on both my kids, and then sold them in lots, mixed in with other items I paid for and used or new-with-tag items we bought but never used, and then used the money I made to buy more kid things. I've also given away a ton of stuff for free (@ $1K worth of items -- strollers, baby carriers, walkers, clothes, etc.). I don't care if the receiver sells them (and if they sell them, I'm assuming they need the money to help their family). I, too, have found furniture on the street, cleaned it up, and after using it for a time, sold it.

Also, many more times than not, when I've offered stuff for free on Craigslist and the like, no one wants it and the listing lingers. But if I charge $5-15, suddenly there is interest and it will sell right away.

I mean I don’t care if they apply or not. I’m at FDA - I don’t need some ethics bureaucrats telling me what I can and can’t do. I know my job enough to know I wouldn’t pick up a side gig for any medical company, editing articles for medical journals etc. But if I want to work for a catering co 1 weekend a month at a wedding, I don’t need some bureaucrat saying no just bc he can or just bc it’s easier to say no than to research it, approve it and do the appropriate paperwork — which I’ve seen happen before.

Exactly why i never want to be a fed again (held an appointed position before). It's not so much that things can't be done, but that people are so lazy about doing their job.

I’m an RN in a clinic setting, like a previous poster. But I also have a side gig at a local long term care facility. I pick up shifts when I want more $. Last year it was $20,000. DH is a police officer, does transports between jail and court occasionally on his off days for extra $$

Move done focus groups, but have never gotten a sandwich or chips.

I made $150 plus a sandwich, chips and a drink for participating in a focus group discussing purchasing private health insurance a couple of weeks ago. It took about 1 hr 45 minutes total—right in the middle of DD’s 3 hour gymnastics class, so the timing was perfect. Hoping to get selected for more of these in the fitire.

No. I'm a fed. Even if I wanted a part time job, it would have to be vetted through my ethics.

$20/visit x 4 dogs a day 5 days a week and you could easily make $1,100.

I have a daily dog walker in a "high rent" area and because I get a walk 5 days a week, it costs $16/walk. I've never seen it at $20 for regular walks.

I suppose I could earn extra money with Etsy or babysitting, but it’s easier to just cut my spending.
