No - a stupid promise made to a buddy, probably during beers after helping your DH move some furniture in the house, does not constitute a binding agreement to saddle his firstborn daughter with a masculine name FOR LIFE. Do not name her Tommy. How about Thomas for her middle name? My friend's DD's middle name is Dennis after a close relative who died while my was pregnant. Given the reason, I thought it was a nice middle name. If If I met a girl whose middle name was Thomas, I would assume it was a family surname. Plus, few people will know her middle name.

Just be prepared for all the Tom-boy jokes she's going to get.

I love the name Tamsin which is a Scottish version of Thomasine.

You could name her Tamsin and call her Tommy.
