Depression is not a demon. It's an illness.

Very sad. Depression doesn't discriminate. He was so talented. When I saw my friends Facebook post I thought it was a hoax, unfortunately not. RIP Mr. Williams, you will be missed.

My sister lives in his community (Tiburon, CA) and everyone there has met him at least once it seems. He had a reputation of being very approachable and a very nice man to his neighbors. In this day, that says a lot. I loved him. I'm sad this happened, but as PP said, not shocked. It was always lurking.

I just tend to always feel sorry for the family when a person dies...especially the first family...because the last wife/kids tend to get all the sympathy and get to plan the funeral and sit up front while the other kids are relegated to the sidelines. My empathy for them is not an effort to throw rocks at the deceased. Understand?

He and his third wife had only been married a few years and had no children, so all his kids are on equal footing, so to speak. And they're all adults. RIP Robin Williams.

This journalist noted how sad he has always seemed.

This was a very moving, and eerie, interview to read today. Thanks for sharing.

I believe her had bipolar affective disorder. Not an easy mental illness to live with. Couple that with using alcohol to cope and to self medicate, and public pressure and fame and you pretty much have a recipe for disaster. He battled these demons a long time, his career is winding down, life gets harder.

He brought joy to so many people, it's so sad to know that it was a cover for such pain.
