Not the OP, but another atheist. I am not "absolutely certain there is no higher power." Logically, it's very difficult to prove a negative, and to quote Voltaire, "While doubt is an uncomfortable position, certainty is a ridiculous one."
However, I do not affirmatively believe in a "higher power," and, in the absence of evidence demonstrating the existence of such an entity, I see no reason to conduct my life as if one exists. If someone provides scientifically testable evidence that a "higher power" exists, or if I end up in some kind of afterlife, I'll have to modify my belief structure.
There's no difference between my outlook on the monotheistic deity(ies) (as well as all other deities) and the way Christians act towards the Egyptian/Norse/Greek/Roman/pick an ancient culture of your choice pantheons.
This is a misconception about atheists that I've only heard from religious people. I've never once heard an atheist say this about themselves and I think they would be laughed at by other atheists if they did.
I think it's a method that some believers use to write off atheists -- to make atheists seem ridiculous and not worth further thought.

Not OP, but for me the question then would be, well then *which* higher power should I be on the fence about? Why not multiple deities? How can a monotheist be so certain that there aren't plural gods (or vice versa)?
Ultimately for me, there are too many versions of a "higher power" that seem to be created as a reflection of society's needs at the time, and place of origin. Human beings have created thousands of gods over the centuries, millenniums, etc. No version of "higher power" seems more plausible to me than the next.
What's plausible to me, is that that there are no higher powers or gods. It just makes the most sense.
Not OP or PP, but this summarizes my beliefs pretty neatly, as well.
