Subject: RM vs Wootton

Way to stir the pot, OP. There are literally dozens of posts about the schools already and there are always strong opinions. Those in the RM cluster will likely tout their school just as those in the Wootton cluster will likely tout theirs. If you really care, find people you know to speak to about the schools and not some anonymous posters.

yes, and data is consistent that higher SES kids have more access to designer drugs and have their parents bail them out of trouble rather than actually be disciplined or suffer the consequences of their actions. So what is your point? That teen pregnancies are worse than being an affluenza kid? IDK - at least with teen pregnancies, some of the teens turn out to be good parents, while an affluenza kids end up killing six innocent people. Are all high SES kids like the affluenza kid? No. Just like not all kids from lower SES have sex in MS or even HS. I wouldn't want my kids exposed to either types of kids, but in reality, I can't put them in a bubble.

No they actually don't have 19, 20 or 21yr olds. And sure there are some pregnancies, drugs, and mess ups in every school. No one said they were perfect but there is more motivation there. And Julius West (the middle school feeder into RM) had 2 full blown pregnancies this year. It is something people should be aware.
I don't know what a "full blown pregnancy" is, and I've been pregnant four times.
It's like being really pregnant as opposed to just kind of pregnant. Or, meaning that the pregnancies went full term, whereas in the higher SES schools, the pregnancies are just kind of pregnant because they get an abortion.

Well, neither of us know any way... I'm speaking of probable outcomes. At that age the pregnancy rate is much lower than in the 15-19 range.

I have kids at JW and I had no clue about any pregnancies (if that info is correct..you certainly can't believe alot of what is on here) so unless the at a glance page lists the statistics I don't know how anyone can really compare pregnancy rates at area schools. I do know that I grew up in a very well to do New England town and there were pregnancies there back when it was even less accepted. I don't believe that any cluster in the county is immune.

+1 This is one of the reasons we chose RM cluster neighborhood over Wootton. Maybe my kids won't get into the IB program, but at least they will have had the exposure to it in JW, and a better chance to get in in HS. I don't necessarily like the rigorous part of the curriculum, but I do like the fact that it has an international flavor to it. Plus, we like the diversity at RM over Wootton, both in racial and SES - hugely important to us.
To both posters... can you describe/rate your experience at JW? Did you find the IB middle years program worthwhile?

I know a current Wootton student who has commented that there's been a decent amount of fighting recently. A lot of drug offerings as well.
