I like Food Wine and Co. Grapeseed is ok.

Did you even read OP's post??
Um, isn't Range on the border of DC and MoCo? What's your beef?
And she fails to read OP's post AGAIN!!
"Ideally in MoCo, but somewhere in DC that is easy to drive to would be fine too."
So isn't Range an idea location? Ideally in MoCo or somewhere in DC. I think YOU have a reading comprehension problem.
I think the reading comprehension issue is that the OP starts off by saying that she's already thought of Range and is looking for restaurants to add to her list.
So, Range meets all the criteria except for the "something I haven't thought of yet" part. It fails miserably there.

Founding Farmers is a step up from TGI Friday's.
+1 and I think the same person trains their waitstaff.
So agree. I can't understand why people think this place is so great.

First of all, I'd say Blacksalt and 1789 don't belong on that list. Second of all, the thread isn't called "what is the best restaurant in DC". It should be possible to ask for advice on where to take grownups in a certain geographic area and get useful advice
I disagree on BlackSalt and 1789 - not cutting edge but certainly fine dining. Service at both is great and food is good.
The thread is called "Recommend fine dining" and asks for recs in MoCo (there is no fine dining in MoCo generally speaking) or somewhere easy to drive to in DC (which the above includes). I don't think there was any confusion in the response.

Pull a copy of the Washingtonian's Top 100 and that should be helpful.
