Yeah, super racist stuff like, maybe allowing super rich foreign investors that helps push more regular people out of the market isn't the best idea ever.

Agreed. I really don't care where my neighbors are from or whether they plan to live here 1 month out of the year, or all 12. Everyone has different property needs and personal interests. The important pieces: they pay property taxes which helps support the community and they maintain the properties because they want to maintain their value.

I have a couple of investment properties abroad... no one in those (foreign) communities had a second thought. They are just happy that the homes are well-maintained and that property values continue appreciating.

For whatever it is worth, I haven't noticed a huge surge of specifically Chinese investors here. A lot of American investors, developers, etc. International Relocations? Sure but this is the US Capitol so that's to be expected. International investors in general? Some, especially as the value of certain foreign currencies appreciate in comparison to the US dollar. But not some sensational surge.

I'm not sure why all the hate. The Japanese came and bought and that died down. The Chinese will buy a lot more because there are more of them and that too will die down.

Republican's may claim that the taxes are too high but the US has some of the lowest taxes among developed countries. We don't have extreme religious law like many middle eastern countries, we afford protections to citizens and residents that lots of other countries do not. Most of the country is safe - even at night. Sure the US has problems but what other country in the world offers what we offer?

The truth is, the US is probably the best place in the world to be rich.

I for one welcome them. We have tons of land. Sure a new home buyer might not be able to buy a house in Arlington but there are plenty of other places that are cheaper even if you *gasp* have to live 15 miles away and plenty of people here have parents that help buy them homes just as the Chinese in the article.

I am a middle class US citizen, who would rather see a few rich foreign nationals buy homes here and pump money into the economy rather than see my tax dollars go for basic services for millions of poor illegal immigrants.

Why? Are you one of the illegal immigrants who is sucking up our resources?
