+1. You don't know whether they have a struggling marriage, or he's cheating or she is just an incredibly insecure person. Lots of things that might not cause a good reaction.

My DH is very good looking. I think so, and have been told so by both women and men. I smile, say thanks and move on.

She was probably just taken aback that you were not only checking out her husband but also verbal about it to her. I probably wouldn't know what to say in that situation either. Most people are usually more discreet when they are checking out a married person and the spouse is right there.

Nothing wrong with what you said. She has issues. People say it to me all the time. My husband is more handsome than I am pretty if that makes sense. I just take it as a compliment.

i think it's fine. doesn't sounds like she has much of a sense of humor. if someone had said it to me about my husband, i'd laugh say "i know!"

She has issues - either is very insecure about her own looks, or there's some sort of marital history you accidently stumbled into.

I still do remember though a similar encounter I had with a grad school advisor when I introduced her to my then-boyfriend, now-husband. She made a similar comment about how handsome he is, but the way she said it with such surprise definitely made me wonder what she thought about me to be so shocked I was together with him. It was more amusing than anything else, and I certainly agree he's a handsome one, but yeah, it came off weird.

Actually, the guy had great hair, but was about 5' tall. So yeah, the hair was the best part. But some people are vain no matter what. Or over compensating

I've had people say exactly that to me several times. I cannot imagine taking it as anything other than a compliment. Don't worry about it!
