Don't add the salt. The problem with salt is it does not break down and will leach in to surround beds(and roots of the tree/shrubs). You need a good amount to kill off plant life. Usually the weeds are fairly salt tolerant, but not the garden plants.
The vinegar raises the ph and is more effective if you use a stronger type vs what is found in local store, but any thing above 10% will need gloves and care. Also vinager will only kill whats above ground.
Boiling water explodes the cells above ground and damages/kills the roots below ground(roots are sensitive to temperature chnages).
The salt in your boiling water did not do much.

I recently tried boiling water. An old neighbor saw me and told me to use salt, so I put it in the next pot. Weeds died overnight. Brown weeds were still there, but I didn't get around to pulling g them. Over this week, they have shriveled quite nicely.

I'm wondering how much salt is bad for the surrounding plants. We had an ocean water flood at hurricane sandy. It killed at least a dozen trees on our block.

You will eventually get some to turn brown but you still have to go out and pull them. Hire someone from Craigslist to come out and pull them. Then Round Up extended. Then keep your kids out of the area until a few good rain showers. Never plant anything near the area that will have run off.

I am sorry that boiling water does not work for you. It definitely works for me. Maybe you're not boiling water correctly?

Try the boiling water -- although really the most effective thing is to pull the weeds.

Also household vinegar won't necessarily work. You need the concentrated vinegar, and be careful with your eyes while you're using it. I used to get it at Asian grocery stores.
