As to the PP, I laughed and laughed, especially about pitching the tent. I had to throw out my MIL on more than one occasion, when she stubbornly overstayed her welcome because she know her son wouldn't do anything about it.

DH just pulled me aside and quietly said, "can you please do something about her?" Done! Out you go, MIL!

My BFF has mild cerebral palsy that you wouldn't know she had except for a noticeable oral articulation challenge. That's not really even that much of an issue because you get used to it pretty fast. She is not mentally challenged though. Just the speech thing.

Anyway, the night before my BFF's wedding her MIL cornered me in the ladies room and asked me "what kind of retard" we were trying to "pawn off" on her son. Then, she wore black to the (daytime, garden party) wedding.

At my parent's wedding, my dad's mother wore funeral attire. Black hat, dress, coat, heels, and purse. She looked like the grieving mother who slaps the police chief in a Jaws.

These MILs are just insecure and confused about what to wear. They are terrified of wearing the wrong thing so just take the mother's choice as a guide. They do not have the confidence to make an original choice. They probably never have, from sorority days on. They need someone to tell them what to wear.

My MIL also wore a white - oh, sorry, CREAM - floor length cream beaded dress. To our afternoon garden party style wedding.

Because she is insane, insecure and jealous. I was so over her by the time of the wedding it didn't even register, though my husband's friends kept coming up to me and asking if I was ok about it. I was just happy she wasn't throwing a fit.
