Didn't read all comments, but I was very shy, had a few friends, and would've LOVED to have a new start at a bigger school. Give him a shot!!

OP here and I am posting an update.

Took ds to look at the other private school. It is a faith based school. The school he has been begging to attends... He doesn't like it. He thinks all the kids will be "goody goody" and too boring for him. Yes, in a pool of 110 kids he doesn't think he will find anyone he will like.

So now he wants to go to the crappy public school here. It's crap.
I totally get the need for him wanting a circle of friends, I do. But now that school is not good enough.

He can go where he wants, I don't care. If I decide, he will blame me anyways when something goes wrong. So he can choose.

he does have adhd.

My kid is a lot younger than yours, but as someone who WAS a teenager, I think it would be easier to make friends in a school with more friend options. A quirky kid might not find a similarly quirky kid in a very small pool, but might find a whole circle in a bigger pool. So I think he may be onto something.

Also, you may need to sit down with him and figure out what he's currently doing wrong and what he could do differently at the new school, to avoid the same stuff happening again. It's not unusual for teenage boys to be ADHD or awkward or immature, so there may be something else going on here, something fixable.
