You're kidding right?

In no way in hell would I leave my kids alone but if I had to choose I would pick leaving them over putting them upstairs alone in a room or unfamiliar house with a bunch of drunks. Who know what could happen to your kids up there?! You sound irresponsible and especially idiotic.

Post a notice on your neighborhood listserv and get a sitter.

No you can't bring a monitor to a party, parties by definition are loud, you aren't going to hear everything. What if one of your kids gets up in the middle of the night and goes looking for you? Or ends up pounding and wailing on a locked front door? People will think you are insane for bringing a monitor to a party.

You can't afford a babysitter?

Weird but I would not worry about really bad things (kidnapping, fire, etc), but I would just obsess about my son waking up, looking for me, and not finding anyone home. So I would not have fun at all.

A word of caution..my parents did this when we were kids. One night they got a little too drunk, mom sent dad home to bed and he passed out in neighbors yard. Mom thought we were safe so she crased on neighbors couch. I was four and the eldest child. I woke up at 3 am to a empty house. I called the police and all hell broke loose.

We do and most of our neighbors do, but with one exception the kids are all still in cribs. (The last is eight and the only child in that house.) however, our homes are also only a few feet apart so monitors work and the doors are within eyesight. I lock our door anyway, and can hear our dog, who would bark with anyone entering (and can't get into the toddler's room). I'd go with your own comfort level; not sure how I'll feel about this with older kids who can easily get up and out of bed.

I would not, unless it was a child too young to get out of crib and our next door neighbor's backyard (this wouldn't happen as our next door neighbors are elderly). I wouldn't go across the street.

OP, I'd do it if I was confident my kids would stay asleep and in their beds. If they often get up at night, no. We have just one, 16 months old, STTN and has never come close to trying to get out of the crib, and if we liked our neighbors I'd totally go over with the monitor for a bit (home locked, of course) and just keep an eye on the house every 10-15 min or so, pop back home every 30 min to check on things.


I use FaceTime on my husband's iPad and my iPhone as a baby monitor. I mute my phone so I don't wake the baby.

How many feet from your house to the neighbors...lot size varies a lot around here.

I'd probably do it for a little bit.
