The haters dislike the fact that they didn't come up with the name, its origins were in the AA go-go circuit, it sounds like the Division of Motor Vehicles, and it includes DC with Maryland and Virginia and reminds people that the DC suburbs dominate this region. Compare that to the NYC area where the city is undeniably the "Big Apple" at the heart of the region and it makes some folks very cranky.
