An apartment dweller is going to pay much less tax than a single family owner whether they rent or own. In Fairfax, townhouse and single family dwellings on average have 3 people living in them and multi-family units have on average 2.2 people living in them. I doubt apartment owners or renters are paying over 2/3 the amount of single family owners in taxes.

Property taxes are what they are. The building owner probably pays a pretty hefty price, however.

Tax is paid for every property in the county, whether is is paid by residents, landlords, or apartment complexes.

Approximately 60-65% of the budget comes from real estate taxes. Local sales tax accounts for less than 5% of the budget. Check out the citizen's guide to the Fairfax County budget.

I am a renter and my kid is in private so I am paying more than my share.

But it's not just about you. Fairfax County currently has no tax other than real estate that pays for it's schools. The tax needs to be spread to renters as well in the form of a sales tax at least.

Yes, I believe it is around half that cost.

Wow, that means Stop picking on mcmansion owners, they are actually paying more than the share, step off.

Not sure what the amount is for a non-esol, farm, spec ed student, but mcmansion owners also pay taxes typically longer than the 13 years of schooling. If you figure they pay for more than 1 child in one year, if they live in the house another 15 years before or after their children are in school they've easily paid for about three children to go all the way through school and more than their fair share for other services as well.
