Agree! And given the track record of failed marriages in the US, it is not exactly as if all the screening that is advocated results in better choices.

Another guy here. I think its cool that you and your wife hit it off fromt he first date. I find nothing wrong with expressing your feelings that early. However, this guy clearly misjudged her interest in him. And it isn't the expression of affection or asking for exclusivity that's scary- its the revelation about the therapist and the disconnect between his reality and OP's reality that sends up red flags.

Exactly. Something is off here. I am not anti-therapy but I think it can sometimes be self indulgent. Sounds like a possibility in this instance. It might also suggest that he doesn't have many friends. I mean wouldn't that be who you talked with about this great woman you just met, not your therapist?

This is an excellent point.

I think it's definitely okay for a person to FEEL like this guy did, but expressing his feelings with such intensity soon after one very casual date is weird.

Does he have a child? If so, has he already asked you to meet the child?
