Nope, we just got bored of debating your flip and shallow come-backs. I'm the PP above at 12:07, who posted about the biological roots of "making" zombies. (For those of you who are actually interested, get Harvard ethnobiologist Wade Davis' book on Haiti, it's a really fun read.)

Poisonous fish + oxygen deprivation = / = Jesus. But clearly that's no fun for you, so you chose to ignore it and instead you go with some shallow Hollywood horror film idea of zombies.

We're moving on. But don't let that stop you from continuing to post silly analogies and eye-rolling jokes! If you think you're smart and witty, at least that makes one person who thinks you're smart. That's better than nobody, right?


Yous must think I've pretty smart too -- since you're going out of your way to try to make me look dumb -- even throwing out the name of a Harvard expert on the subject of zombies -- as if there's only one official kind of zombie -- the kind that doesn't interfere with your perception of Jesus. There are also several dying/resurrecting gods in ancient mythology - some may be chronicled by Harvard experts.

I'm a lapsed Catholic and our kids go to Catholic school. NoVa has a lot of strong old-fashioned Catholics, so I keep my lapse-ness quiet but wouldn't lie about it if asked. It's interesting to talk with people who are similar to me in many ways but strong in their faith; who knows, I might learn something from them.

The muslim religion acknowledges Jesus, but just as a prophet, not as the son of God. Others who are not raised in a Christianity may well think of Jesus as a zombie, for the simple reason that he came back from the dead - which is what zombies do -- if you believe in them.


Then there's Mary who conceived without intercourse, because a spirit - God - was the father. There are examples of that in other mythologies that precede Christianity.

There are lots of kinds of ghosts too and many, many gods that people have believed in through the ages. Jesus is special to the people who believe him to be the son of God, come here to save us by dying for our sins (at the behest of his father -- the god that the Jews believe in).

What about the poster who said God was not a ghost and then amended it to say not a ghost like casper who says boo? we're they mocking or making things up? Not necessarily -- just trying to correct a misperception. could be the same with zombie -- and also could be that people don't like thinking about Jesus as a zombie and more than they like thinking of god as a ghost. But they are. Ghosts and zombies are outside of nature just like God and the resurrected Christ are. That's what faith is all about - believing something despite the lack of evidence for it

Yes, of course, zombies are people who survived in a casket for several days on very little oxygen. The oxygen deprivation--and the brain damage that results--explains the shambling walk and slurred speech after they are revived. A poisonous fish that's found in Haiti is used to induce a catatonic state before they are put in the coffin, and in fact the Haitian fish is genetically related to a fish in Africa that was used over there for similar purposes. There's been actual research by ethnobiologists on this.

So, "zombie" doesn't describe Jesus after the resurrection at all.

Sing it with me, people.... R.E.S.P.E.C.T, tell you what it means to me....

PP, your experiences sound very similar to mine. I doubt we run in similar circles, but I can vouch that there are indeed intellectual, high earning circles in Washington where religion is mocked, Christianity and Islam in particular.

Zombies are not ghosts, but "ghost" is historically a common synonym for "spirit", as in Holy Ghost. In any case, the firet PP would probably say that s/he said nothing about Jesus, since neither atheists, Jews, nor Muslims believe Jesus was God.

Not a troll - zombies are people who come back from the dead -- like Jesus supposedly did. Just as God is not the kind of ghost that says "boo" like Casper but is still a ghost -- a holy ghost, -- neither is Jesus a zombie like the creepy ones in the movies who stalk humans. Jesus came out of the grave, alright, but to save humans, not to stalk and frighten them. Though some were afraid at first as I recall.
