This was a common joke I heard (and said) growing up in SE, DC. To be quite honest, the texture of some chicken/beef in Chinese "carryouts" is repugnant to me and doesn't seem to be chicken/beef. I steer clear of the places in low-income areas, because I think the standards are lower. In general, I find that Chinese workers in these sort of carryouts are unsanitary and gross. Once, a worker even spit on the floor while cooking.

1. Protein is very hard to come by in a lot of poor countries. Hence, they eat whatever protein source they can find... bugs, rats, and yes, cats and dogs
2. In France (and probably other countries), they eat horses
3. In some countries, they don't see dogs/cats as house pets. It's becoming more common due to Western influences and higher standards of living.

If you were starving, I'm pretty sure you'd fillet that cat or dog you see walking around the street.

Back to the original post... it's racist because you assume that Asian people here eat it, which they probably don't. If you said it in Asia in an area that does eat cats/dogs, then it would be true.

It's like if there were a group of white people living somewhere in Asia, and let's say there was a mass school shooting, and someone says, "oh it's probably the white person" because you know, most of the mass school shootings here in the US were committed by white boys.

Of course they had to eat cats and dogs. And anything else that moved. Do you have any idea how many people died under Mao during the Cultural Revolution? From starvation? More than Stalin killed and more than Hitler killed. Good Lord. Take a history lesson. When I lived in China in 1979 there was no living or most beast including pests because everything had been eaten or killed off by pesticides.

Sure, are all Asians starving right now? They are still eating those poor cats and dogs. It seems like it's a delicatessen.
