A boy no matter what age should always wear a jockstrap and protective cup for most sports. Certainly for baseball. Soccer he most likely will be alright without one although there have been instances of ruptured testicles. A soft cup might be his best option in soccer. It provides a bit of protection from glancing blows but it really helps with the confidence level. Since they are made out of rubber or foam usually it's very comfortable. For lacrosse a cup is must, as it's the sport that you're most likely to experience a groin injury. Lacrosse is followed by wrestling, baseball, and football. So remember it's MUCH better to play it safe than risk losing one or both testicles. Wear a cup kids.

I would suggest the Nutty Buddy or the Lobloo cup for the maximum protection but the shock doctor carbon flex cup is not a bad cheap option as well.

Yes I started wearing a cup in kindergarten and well thru middle and high school for baseball, I can not stress the importance of a cup in baseball, especially catchers, I can tell you that in HS I started catching for a 10 year olds team and when they would miss a ball would always come right to my groin, and usually at like 90 MPH, but I would not really feel anything because of my cup I had on.

Around age 8 I started making my son wear it, he always hatted wearing it at first, and sometimes he would get into a screaming match with me about it then I finally made a deal with him that before a practice or game I would make sure to see the top of the cup or no game, and that made him start to listen and wear it, but he says once he starts to play he doesn't even feel it on him,

I all ways wear my cup no matter what ( I'm 13) I started wearing it around age 9, a cup is really important in karate because ya never know when you will get kickin or hit in the groin.

i started at age 7 for base ball, it was required, I'm 15 now and it's still required and I still wear one

I asked my son's pediatrician who is a big baseball fan. He said absolutely when they start kid pitch wearing a cup has to be mandatory. He also said if it is machine pitch with harder balls then the catcher should be wearing one too and it was better to have our son get used to wearing one for machine pitch. He said T-Ball it wasn't necessary.

My son did wear one in elementary school for baseball and he is a 8th grader and still wears it for baseball.

No cup in soccer but my son had to get one for baseball too but it was allways required no matter what position, he got a compression short with a built in cup pocket he wears that over his underwear then under his baseball pants and then you can only sometimes see that he wears a cup, and other times not.
